Install gnome-shell-extension-openweather package 2. Log out / in to make extension available 3. Enable extension in Tweaks 4. Seems this might have been a bug with GNOME Shell itself - after updating GNOME from 3.36.1 to 3.36.2, the settings started to work. Thanks for the update though!
