Description of problem: the getmail package is unavailable in Fedora 32 repos How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1. dnf install getmail Actual results: No matches found. Expected results: Dependencies resolved, package found and install prompt Additional info: My systemd unit for fetching them mails was failing, and it turned out it wasn't finding /usr/bin/getmail I entered getmail in a console for PackageKit-command-not-found to locate it, and it didn't find it I searched for it with dnf and didn't find it I got by with the f31 package by doing a ```dnf install https://download-ib01.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/31/Everything/x86_64/os/Packages/g/getmail-5.13-2.fc31.noarch.rpm``` which installed perfectly, but I do not want to depend on a f31 package
The same holds for Fedora 33. The getmail package has been retired due to the retirement of Python 2. There seems to be a potential replacement - based on python 3, named getmail6 -, but it has no package maintainer in Fedora yet. First persons to ask might be the maintainers of the retired getmail package, but I don't know how to reach them (hopefully via this bug report). Some other distros have already adopted the new package, would be great to see this in Fedora too. Links: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/getmail https://getmail6.org/
I'm the current package maintainer of getmail in Fedora. I'm aware that getmail6 exists, but I haven't found the time and need yet to package it. However I will support anyone that wants to package it.
Great to know you are aware of it. Since getmail has been retired, the need for getmail6 would be the same as it was for getmail, or do I miss something? Unfortunately, I don't feel skilled enough to become a packager. Hopefully someone will volunteer.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 32 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 32 on 2021-05-25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '32'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 32 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
In the meantime, this copr package seems to do the job: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/gregw/extras/package/getmail6/.
replace with https://github.com/getmail6/getmail6

If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug.
