Description James Smith 2020-05-21 19:29:30 UTC
Update documentation as needed to describe support for both UDP and TCP listeners on the same port on the same loadbalancer in OVN Octavia provider driver.

Notes from defunct Jira ticket:

OVN LB Cookbook:
https://docs.openstack.org/networking-ovn/latest/admin/loadbalancer.html

Creating listeners within same loadbalancer within same port but with different L4 protocol is not different from any other listener creation.

Greg Rakauskas, James Smith: what's the state of the doc work? I'm concerned that the Eng BZ is still targeted for z1.

Hi Chuck Copello, this RFE (UDP and TCP listeners) has been pushed out to later. At a 11 Feb planning meeting, UDP support was estimated to be ready much later (z3?).

Since that planning meeting, there has been no movement. (I met with the Octavia squad just this morning.) James Smith works with the OVN squad and hasn't mentioned any changes there, either.

Daniel Alvarez Sanchez or Maciej Jozefczyk might know why the associated RFE BZ (1703958) still has a Target Milestone value of z1.

Thanks, Greg. I added a NEEDINFO to Anita on this and another BZ that have been added to the z1 advisory list and therefore need Doc Type changed to Tech Preview (still in ON_QA state) and a draft of doc text added.

Greg Rakauskas Chuck Copello, from what I remember QA said that they are not able to verify this RFE withing z1 time frame. They were asked to move those BZ's at least to z2.

Maciej

James Smith, is this still in TO_DO or IN_DEVELOPMENT?

In progress–been digging, have meeting scheduled with SME.

I just changed Jira status to In Progress. Is that what you meant? Thanks!

Doc impact of BZ1003958 may be minimal to none.

We never released a version of the OVN Octavia provider driver that did not support both udp and tcp listeners on one port. When we release the OVN Octavia provider driver in 16.1, the driver will support both listeners on one port. So we don't need to say "now you can have both listeners on one port," because customers never knew that it was a limitation.

We should make sure that any existing documentation on using/administering listeners covers the case where you have both upd and tcp on one port.
