Description Ian Tewksbury 2020-05-29 11:49:37 UTC
Description of problem:
The 5.2. Enabling the Red Hat Virtualization Manager Repositories (https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.3/html/installing_red_hat_virtualization_as_a_self-hosted_engine_using_the_cockpit_web_interface/installing_the_red_hat_virtualization_manager_she_cockpit_deploy#Enabling_the_Red_Hat_Virtualization_Manager_Repositories_install_RHVM) procedure step 2 lists that "Find the Red Hat Virtualization Manager subscription pool and record the pool ID: " but in reality you need both the Red Hat Virtualization Manager subscription as well as RHEL subscription.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
4.3 and 4.4-beta

How reproducible:
Always, its doc.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Attempt to follow the steps in https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.3/html/installing_red_hat_virtualization_as_a_self-hosted_engine_using_the_cockpit_web_interface/installing_the_red_hat_virtualization_manager_she_cockpit_deploy#Enabling_the_Red_Hat_Virtualization_Manager_Repositories_install_RHVM
2. On step 4 will fail because the following repositories are not available with only a Red Hat Virtualization Manager subscription

    --enable=rhel-7-server-rpms \
    --enable=rhel-7-server-supplementary-rpms \

Actual results:
You need to figure out on your own that you need to attach a RHEL subscription to the RHV-M (self-hosted engine) virtual machine in order for the step 4, Configure the repositories) step to work.

Expected results:
Step 2 should specify that an addtional subscription pool is needed that includes RHEL.

Additional info:
Specifically when doing self-hosted RHV-M (self-hosted engine) we should specify that if RHEL VDC (or similar) subs are available that those are suggested to be used.

Ian,

Does this apply to 4.4 as well?

Martin, Sandro, Can you comment on this?

Comment 3 Ian Tewksbury 2020-06-04 16:33:53 UTC
@Steve, as per my original comment I verified this is an issue in the 4.3 and 4.4-beta docs.

Yes, both 4.3 and 4.4 requires both RHEL and RHV subscriptions.

Comment 10 Ian Tewksbury 2020-07-06 11:46:44 UTC
With the latest updates to the RHV entitlement with a refresh of the manifest RHEL now shows up as a supported product with the RHV subscription rendering this bugzilla mute.
