Description of problem: 1) I'm on Cinnamon DE, 2) I'm already installed GNOME software since long time (years), 3) GNOME software so buggy & bothered by it's long standing unresolved & new bugs, 4) I like to remove GNOME software & try KDE Discover (plasma-discover) on my Fedora 32 X64 bit Cinnamon edition. 5) I run "sudo dnf remove gnome-software" to remove it before installing plasma-discover, but it asked me to remove flatpak & flatpak-session-helper ! - see bellow: sudo dnf remove gnome-software Dependencies resolved. ================================================================================ Package Arch Version Repository Size ================================================================================ Removing: gnome-software x86_64 3.36.1-1.fc32 @updates 17 M Removing unused dependencies: PackageKit x86_64 1.1.13-3.fc32 @updates 2.7 M appstream-data noarch 32-6.fc32 @fedora 17 M flatpak x86_64 1.6.3-1.fc32 @fedora 6.3 M flatpak-session-helper x86_64 1.6.3-1.fc32 @fedora 205 k fwupd x86_64 1.4.2-2.fc32 @updates 6.3 M gnome-desktop3 x86_64 3.36.2-1.fc32 @updates 2.7 M libappstream-glib x86_64 0.7.17-1.fc32 @fedora 1.0 M libgcab1 x86_64 1.4-2.fc32 @fedora 211 k libsmbios x86_64 2.4.2-7.fc32 @fedora 378 k libxmlb x86_64 0.1.14-2.fc32 @fedora 247 k p11-kit-server x86_64 0.23.20-1.fc32 @fedora 1.0 M rpmfusion-free-appstream-data noarch 32-3.fc32 @rpmfusion-free 406 k rpmfusion-nonfree-appstream-data noarch 32-2.fc32 @rpmfusion-nonfree 126 k xdg-desktop-portal x86_64 1.7.2-1.fc32 @fedora 2.1 M xdg-desktop-portal-gtk x86_64 1.7.1-1.fc32 @fedora 929 k Transaction Summary ================================================================================ Remove 16 Packages Freed space: 59 M Is this ok [y/N]: N Operation aborted. I do not know about "flatpak-session-helper" whither it is needed only by gnome-software & it is correct to asking to remove it or not, but "flatpak" should not be asked to be removed ! "flatpak" could be used from terminal & not from GUI, so why asked to remove it ! It was already installed by default before I installed gnome-software manually ... Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 3.36.1-1.fc32 How reproducible: sudo dnf remove gnome-software Expected results: It should not asked to remove flatpak (I do not know about "flatpak-session-helper" Additional info: 1) I know that I can overcome this by: sudo dnf mark install flatpak but I suspecting that it should not be asked to be removed when trying to remove gnome-software, because flatpak can work from terminal not from GUI 2) I have many flatpak packages installed from FlatHub on my system 3) I do not know about if other packages in list to be removed if affected also by this issue or not ? 4) I searched about "flatpak-session-helper" in Fedora packages at koji but did not find any thing about it !!
This package has changed maintainer in Fedora. Reassigning to the new maintainer of this component.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 32 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 32 on 2021-05-25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '32'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 32 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
I think this is just a problem with the packages on your machine. Flatpak was brought in as a dependency to a program originally (for F34 this is probably xdg-desktop-portal, which is a recommended package for webkit2gtk3, which is a dependency for cinnamon), and it looks like you have removed enough of the pre-loaded Gnome parts to make DNF say you don't need it anymore. In the default state on the live CD for Cinnamon, flatpak won't be removed if you remove an installed gnome-software: Dependencies resolved. ====================================================================================================================================================== Package Architecture Version Repository Size ====================================================================================================================================================== Removing: gnome-software x86_64 40.0-2.fc34 @fedora 7.6 M Removing unused dependencies: PackageKit x86_64 1.2.3-1.fc34 @fedora 2.7 M appstream x86_64 0.14.3-2.fc34 @fedora 2.3 M appstream-data noarch 34-1.fc34 @fedora 12 M flashrom x86_64 1.2-6.fc34 @fedora 1.8 M fwupd x86_64 1.5.9-2.fc34 @updates 5.9 M fwupd-plugin-flashrom x86_64 1.5.9-2.fc34 @updates 28 k fwupd-plugin-modem-manager x86_64 1.5.9-2.fc34 @updates 69 k fwupd-plugin-uefi-capsule-data x86_64 1.5.9-2.fc34 @updates 1.5 M libftdi x86_64 1.4-7.fc34 @fedora 105 k libgcab1 x86_64 1.4-4.fc34 @fedora 207 k libjaylink x86_64 0.2.0-2.fc34 @fedora 86 k libjcat x86_64 0.1.6-1.fc34 @fedora 181 k libsmbios x86_64 2.4.3-2.fc34 @fedora 389 k libxmlb x86_64 0.3.0-1.fc34 @fedora 270 k Transaction Summary ====================================================================================================================================================== Remove 15 Packages I don't know if Flatpak is considered an integral part of the Cinnamon spin, but for the Workstation edition (which uses Gnome by default), it is included explicitly on the live CD and then installed. Just for the reference, Ian also opened a question on the devel list: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/Z3AMWS4C3TWAVRC2CKJJ5CVNJFZXR25Q/
Fedora 32 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-05-25. Fedora 32 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
