RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description David Kaylor 2020-06-17 19:30:07 UTC
Description of problem:
If signatures cannot be stored, the current error message does not make the problem clear.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Currently released versions of skopeo

How reproducible:
Attempt to copy from a registry with a configured sigstore to one that does not have a configured sigstore

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Configure a sigstore for a source registry
2. Do not configure a sigstore for destination registry
3. Copy from the source to the destination without specifying the "--remove-signatures" flag

Actual results:
Error received: "FATA[0003] Can not copy signatures: X-Registry-Supports-Signatures extension not supported, and lookaside is not configured"

Expected results:
Skopeo prevents this by design but the error could be more user-friendly.

Parker, since you were recently in the Skopeo project, please take a look at this.

Comment 3 akretzsc 2020-07-22 21:03:34 UTC
I've recently taken over as TAM on this account and would to provide some kind of update on this bug to the customer, is there anything we can share at this time?

Comment 4 Tom Sweeney 2020-07-23 19:41:39 UTC
Parker any progress?

Comment 5 Parker Van Roy 2020-07-28 18:43:04 UTC
I apologize for the delay. I've been able to recreate the bug and will look into a fix over the next day or two.

Comment 6 Parker Van Roy 2020-07-29 20:43:33 UTC
PR https://github.com/containers/image/pull/997 up with proposed fix.

Comment 7 Parker Van Roy 2020-09-28 14:49:07 UTC
Fixed with https://github.com/containers/image/pull/963, so the response will now be "Can not copy signatures to <ImageRef>"

Comment 9 Tom Sweeney 2020-10-02 20:43:17 UTC
Assigning to Jindrich for packaging needs.

Comment 10 Jindrich Novy 2020-10-07 07:50:46 UTC
The PR in comment 7 is already applied in skopeo-1.2.0.
