I'll start with this update soon and check what will happen to dependant packages.

It seems that only two packages depend on python2-dns:

$ dnf repoquery --repo=rawhide{,-source} --whatrequires python2-dns
mailman-3:2.1.33-1.fc33.src
mailman-3:2.1.33-1.fc33.x86_64
trac-spamfilter-plugin-0:1.4.0-0.2.20190829svn17127.fc32.noarch
trac-spamfilter-plugin-0:1.4.0-0.2.20190829svn17127.fc32.src

So this change has to be coordinated with their maintainers.

Comment 5 Paul Howarth 2020-06-25 07:22:20 UTC
If Python 2 support is holding back progress, maybe it's worth considering splitting off python2-dns into a separate package that can stay on the current version, allowing python-dns to become Python 3 only and be able to upgrade as required?

Because we want to update python-dns to the latest version before Fedora beta release, I've decided to prepare a split package python2-dns so the update won't be blocked. Who wants to co-maintain python2-dns?
