RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Fixed In Version: device-mapper-multipath-0.8.4-3.el8
Doc Type: Bug Fix
Doc Text:
Cause: sysfs prints the fiber channel remote port dev_loss_tmo parameter as a signed integer, when in reality it is an unsigned integer and multipath was expecting an unsigned integer Consequence: When multipath sets dev_loss_tmo to the maximum value because a device is configured to queue forever, it prints error messages because dev_loss_tmo becomes a negative number Fix: Multipath now converts any negative number to the appropriate number. Result: multipath can now handle signed or unsigned values for dev_loss_tmo in sysfs, and no longer prints an error message, for large dev_loss_tmo values.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
device-mapper-multipath-0.8.4-2.el8

How reproducible: Often

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable DM-Multipath
2. service multipathd status

Actual results: Cannot parse dev_loss_tmo attribute '-1' messages in logs

Expected results: no cannot parse messages are expected

Additional info: We did not see this with RHEL-8.2 and device-mapper-multipath-0.8.3-3.el8

Comment 2 Ben Marzinski 2020-07-07 16:39:56 UTC
Sysfs prints dev_loss_tmo as a signed integer, even though it is actually an unsigned integer. Multipath now to copes with either.

Comment 5 Marco Patalano 2020-09-04 14:57:15 UTC
Reproduced with device-mapper-multipath-0.8.4-2.el8:

#rpm -qa device-mapper-multipath
device-mapper-multipath-0.8.4-2.el8.x86_64:

Sep 4 10:50:29 storageqe-05 multipathd[3200]: rport-1:0-3: Cannot parse dev_loss_tmo attribute '-1'
Sep 4 10:50:29 storageqe-05 multipathd[3200]: rport-1:0-4: Cannot parse dev_loss_tmo attribute '-1'
Sep 4 10:50:29 storageqe-05 multipathd[3200]: rport-4:0-3: Cannot parse dev_loss_tmo attribute '-1'
Sep 4 10:50:29 storageqe-05 multipathd[3200]: rport-4:0-4: Cannot parse dev_loss_tmo attribute '-1'

Verified that the messages are no longer output with device-mapper-multipath-0.8.4-3.el8:

# rpm -qa device-mapper-multipath
device-mapper-multipath-0.8.4-3.el8.x86_64
