Description of problem: gparted requires "PolicyKit-authentication-agent" which is provided by polkit-kde-5.18.4-1.el8.x86_64 and xfce-polkit-0.3-3.el8.x86_64 at the moment. Currently about 20 KDE and KDE framework packages are installed, although we are using Gnome: > sudo yum remove polkit-kde Updating Subscription Management repositories. Gnome provides it's own polkit, gparted should use that. https://github.com/GNOME/gnome-shell/search?q=polkit&unscoped_q=polkit
I have zero interest in packaging polkit-gnome for epel
@leigh scott @Mukundan Ragavan Looking at the comment #1, #2 Do we still need anything here? Does gparted uses now Gnome -> polkit ?
As Leigh pointed out in comment #1 GNOME shell provides the PolicyKit agent for GNOME 3 and gnome-polkit was retired a long time ago. On EPEL 8 this can be confirmed by doing a no dependencies remove of polkit-kde, which currently provides PolicyKit-authentication-agent. rpm --erase --nodeps polkit-kde GParted with still prompt for the administrator password and launch successfully. Finally in Fedora 33 and later the gnome-shell package was updated to document that it provides PolicyKit-authentication-agent [1]. In my opinion the gnome-shell package in EPEL 8 (and possibly EPEL 7 too) needs the same update.
