Description iolo 2020-07-02 15:55:51 UTC
Description of problem:
Using the flatpak installed by Gnome Software, whenever I tried to start recording, I would get an error prompt like this:

Error opening recording device.
Error code: -9997 Invalid sample rate

and the recording would not begin. This happened regardless of what sample rate I had chosen. Upon seeking help, I was told I should be able to pick a "pulse" recording device, which never appeared Audacity's list of recording devices. Eventually I removed the flatpak, and reinstalled Audacity using DNF, after which I was able to find a bunch of "pulse" recording devices, and recording with them now works fine.

All of this is to say that there seems to be something wrong specifically with the flatpak version of Audacity. And to clarify: I installed the Audacity flatpak using the Fedora source (registry.fedoraproject.org), not Flathub.

Here's a link to the users list thread where I got help with my problem: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/NQPT4O3PW5CEMLB6HRABP5C37WHGPSB3/#ADKCLTIOQDSPIODZGXDHIOJ5M24BPMNU

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install the Audacity flatpak from Gnome Software using the Fedora source
2. Start Audacity
3. Click the big red button to start recording

Actual results:
An error prompt appears, claiming an invalid sample rate, and recording does not begin.

Expected results:
Recording should begin in the expected manner with no error prompt.

Sorry for all the troubles you have had, but I have no idea who is actually maintaining the Fedora flatpak vesion, but I know it isn't me.

We do currently have an issue with the Fedora repository RPM version of Audacity not appearing the Gnome software app store, but we are working on getting that fixed. So hopefully installing the RPM version will be easier in the future.

Some digging shows that Kalev Lember is the maintainer of the FlatPak in the Fedora registry, so I am assigning this to them.

Comment 3 Fedora Program Management 2021-04-29 16:32:40 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 32 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 32 on 2021-05-25.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '32'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 32 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Ben Cotton 2021-05-25 16:31:57 UTC
Fedora 32 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-05-25. Fedora 32 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
