RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Filip Dvorak 2020-07-17 14:21:04 UTC
Description of problem:
The problem is that it is not possible to run the kadmin service
after the upgrade of krb from 1.17 (no default configuration) to 1.18 because the configuration file
/var/kerberos/krb5kdc/kdc.conf contains legacy/unsuported enctypes (DES and 3DES ciphers)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL-8.3, krb5-server-1.18.2-3

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. configure krb5 server (krb5-1.17-18) with some user and run it
2. verify that supported_enctypes in kdc.conf contains "des3-hmac-sha1:normal"
3. upgrade to krb5-1.18.2-3
4. systemctl start kadmin krb5kdc

Actual results:
#systemctl start kadmin

● kadmin.service - Kerberos 5 Password-changing and Administration
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/kadmin.service; disabled;
 vendor preset: disabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Fri 2020-06-19 12:20:36
 IST; 45ms ago
   Process: 74733 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/kadmind -P /var/run/kadmind.pid
 $KADMIND_ARGS (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

Jun 19 12:20:36 dell-r530-5.gsslab.pnq.redhat.com systemd[1]: Starting Kerberos 5 Password-changing and Administration...
Jun 19 12:20:36 dell-r530-5.gsslab.pnq.redhat.com kadmind[74733]: kadmind: Required parameters in kdc.conf missing while initializing, aborting

Expected results:
krb5kdc starts just fine when it finds unrecognized enctypes

Additional info:
The error message "kadmind: Required parameters in kdc.conf missing while initializing, aborting" should be better and more informative.
