Description SATHEESARAN 2020-07-20 17:26:20 UTC
Description of problem:
-----------------------
Chapter-6 of the deployment guide deals with the installation of OS.

There are few more info that can be added/corrected/modified

Section 6.1.1.1 - Explains how to download RHVH 4.4, add info post step-5 to check for checksum - sha256sum of the downloaded ISO and compare the same with sha256sum available in the download portal. This will make sure, the ISO is downloaded without any errors during download.

section 6.1.1.2, procedure, step-4 calls as 'Accept the default Localization and Software options.', but there is no software options. So make that as 'Accept the default Localization'

Section 6.1.1.2, procedure, step-5, 'Increase /var/log size', move this to end of 6.1.1.2 post rebooting the host after installation. Replace this with the statement to make use of default option 'Automatic' for storage configuration. Red Hat recommends to make use of default 'Automatic' storage configuration

Section 6.1.1.2, procedure, step-6, 'Network & Host Name' - (ii) point, "Check the Automatically connect to this network when it is available check box.". Replace this with -> "Select the network interface, and click on configure, click on 'General' tab, Check 'Connect automatically with priority'

Section 6.1.1.2, procedure, new sub-step under step-6. Add a new IPV6 configuration step, if users prefer IPV6, then on the same tab (i.e) Click, "Network & Host Name" > Select Interface > Click on 'Configure' > IPV6 Settings and configure the required IPV6 network on this host.If preferring static network configuration, add static IPV6 address, prefix and gateway. Also provide the IPV6 DNS servers and additional search domains to complete IPV6 static network configuration. Make a important note that dual network stack ( IPv4+IPv6) is not supported with RHHI-V

Section 6.1.1.2, procedure, step 8 - System purpose. Remove this as this is not available with RHVH 4.4.1 anaconda installer screen

Section 6.1.1.2, remove procedure step 10 about accepting licencing agreement as that is not seen in RHVH.

Add a last step, post rebooting the RHVH node after OS installation, increase the /var/log to 15GB with the help of cockpit + also register the system using RHSM

Comment 1 SATHEESARAN 2020-07-20 17:56:31 UTC
Register to RHSM, is already available as part of chapter-7 of deployment guide, so ignore that comment

Comment 2 SATHEESARAN 2020-07-21 03:05:32 UTC
Section 6.2.1.2 Installation of NBDE server with RHEL 8,
update point-5 . With RHEL 8, none of the disks are automatically selected,
so ask users to select the disk for OS installation.

point-8 system purpose is also missing, remove this

Comment 5 SATHEESARAN 2020-07-21 06:21:29 UTC
@Laura,

Can you also add the changes to RHEL 8 based NBDE Key Server installation - 6.2.2.1

Point-6 -> Make the similar changes on how to configure networks & IPV6

Remove 8, system purpose

Comment 7 SATHEESARAN 2020-07-29 02:31:27 UTC
Changes required only in RHEL server based RHVH deployment guides

Required changes at high level:

1. In RHEL based RHVH deployments include IPV6 network config info as well
2. In RHEL based RHVH, there is a difference in select disks for installing OS>
here user had to select the disk only for installation.
3. Even with RHEL based deployments, suggest to proceed with 'Automatic storage configuration'
and increase the size of /var/log post OS installation.
4. Update how to configure network with RHEL 8

Details:
----------
1. In RHEL server based RHHI deployment, installing RHEL OS on the baremetal section - 6.1.1.2, point-5
remove "(i) Deselect any disks...." and replace it with info to select any disks for OS installation
and prefer 'Automatic storage config'

2. Move /var/log recommendation to post of OS installation
3. Update network configuration. 'Network & Host Name' -> "Check the Automatically connect to this network when it is available check box.". Replace this with -> "Select the network interface, and click on configure, click on 'General' tab, Check 'Connect automatically with priority'

5. Remove system purpose
