Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Jeff Moyer 2020-07-31 16:58:49 UTC
Description of problem:

We are enabling io_uring in 8.3, and users and developers will expect the most recent library included in the release.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
We currently ship v0.2. v0.7 is the latest.

Additional Info:

There is approximately zero risk to updating liburing, since we've never had kernel support enabled before now.

Hello

I get the error when run make in examples, Did I miss something?

git clone git://git.kernel.dk/liburing.git

[root@storageqe-67 examples]# make
     CC io_uring-test
io_uring-test.c:13:10: fatal error: liburing.h: No such file or directory
 #include "liburing.h"

You probably didn't install the library yet, so it can't find it.

> I get the error when run make in examples, Did I miss something?

Don't run make from inside the directory, run it from the top level and it'll work.

Comment 9 guazhang@redhat.com 2020-08-12 03:07:17 UTC
thanks, I got it.

# ldd io_uring-cp

	/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007f22d5c80000)

Comment 10 Jeff Moyer 2020-08-12 11:08:59 UTC
Exactly. You'll also want to run one of the examples to ensure they load the library properly (there's really no reason it shouldn't work, that's just for completeness). For instance, from the examples directory:

dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=1M count=1
./io_uring-test testfile
Submitted=4, completed=4

Comment 11 Jeff Moyer 2020-08-13 14:43:39 UTC
Guangwu, can you confirm that the example program(s) run as expected?
