Description valery brasseur 2006-03-24 11:15:41 UTC
Description of problem:

unable to generate a correct working initrd for booting on usb disk drive

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

5.0.32

How reproducible:

always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create a new initrd :
mkinitrd -v --with-usb --preload=ehci-hcd --preload=uhci-hcd --preload=ohci-hcd
--preload=usb-storage --preload=scsi_mod --preload=sd_mod
usbinitrd-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5.img 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5

2. reboot using the new initrd

Actual results:

3. the kernel panic not finding the root partition

Expected results:

the kernel correctly boot on the usb -driv

Additional info:

extracting the generated initrd
then modifyinf line order
----
echo "Loading sd_mod.ko module"
insmod /lib/sd_mod.ko
----
to put then after the sleep
then recreate the initrd manually.
this solve the probleme

note : the mkinitrd script was working on FC4 ! (version 4.2.15)

Fedora Core 5 is no longer maintained. Is this bug still present in Fedora 7 or
Fedora 8?
