Description of problem: Using the "Change Password" in the Dropdown of the webui to change the password to one that includes a german umlaut (äüö) will make it impossible to login again on the webui. Login with the new password in ldap or via cli kinit still works. krb5kdc says: " PREAUTH_FAILED: user@REALM for krbtgt/REALM@REALM, Incorrect password in encrypted challenge" Resetting the Password via the admin and then change password via "Your password has expired. Please enter a new password." Prompt will lead to a working webui but you can not login at any other place (ldap, kinit). Also you can not change your password anymore "2100: ACIError" Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): FreeIPA, Version: 4.6.6 RHEL 7.8 How reproducible: reproducible every time Steps to Reproduce: 1. Login to ipa web ui 2. Click on your username -> change password 3. Select a password with a german umlaut (like "chängeme2020") 4. Logout 5. Try to login again, "The password you entered is incorrect." Actual results: No Login possible anymore on the webui, login in ldap is still possible. Expected results: Login possible with new Password Additional info: When you use the cli tool to change the password to one with a umlaut everything works except for the webui.

Also you can not change your password anymore "2100: ACIError" This is resetting after setting a password with a non-ASCII value? Can't change your password again how, as whom? Are you saying that after setting a password with the umlaut that kinit from the command-line also doesn't work?
# Behaviour 1 You begin with a unlocked account (not resetted password state). So you can login to the gui normally. You change the password in the gui OR ipa passwd to one with a umlaut You try to re-login to the gui: not possible anymore CLI tools work fine, you can change your password there with ip passwd after using kinit. # Behaviour 2 As Admin: Use ipa passwd <user> to set a password The User is presented with the "Your password has expired. Please enter a new password." dialog. He changes his password to one with a umlaut there User Logs Out of the Gui. User can login again. But he can not change his password anymore in the gui: "2100: ACIError: Invalid credentials" CLI Tools (kinit, but also any other authentication like against ldap) do not work anymore. "kinit: Password incorrect while getting initial credentials"

Fedora 33 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-11-30. Fedora 33 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.
