Description mxie@redhat.com 2020-08-25 04:30:06 UTC
Description of problem:
Should correct info about 'UEFI on OpenStack' in virt-v2v-support man page

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
virt-v2v-1.42.0-5.module+el8.3.0+7152+ab3787c3.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Check info about 'UEFI on OpenStack' in virt-v2v-support man page
# man virt-v2v-support
....
Since OVMF support was only recently added to KVM (in 2014/2015), not all target environments support UEFI guests
       yet:

       UEFI on libvirt, qemu
Supported. Virt-v2v will generate the correct libvirt XML (metadata) automatically, but note that the same
version of OVMF must be installed on the conversion host as is installed on the target hypervisor, else you will
have to adjust paths in the metadata.

       UEFI on OpenStack
           Not supported.

       UEFI on oVirt or RHV
           Supported since oVirt/RHV ≥ 4.2 and virt-v2v ≥ 1.39.12.

.....

Actual results:
As above description

Expected results:
Because v2v already added UEFI support for -o glance since bug1445659 and code 'openstack_image_properties.ml' already support UEFI, besides, openstack also supports UEFI now, pls see the bottom of this page 'https://docs.openstack.org/glance/pike/admin/troubleshooting.html', should correct info about 'UEFI on OpenStack' in virt-v2v-support man page

Comment 1 Richard W.M. Jones 2020-08-25 07:28:29 UTC
Upstream change is:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-August/msg00297.html

IIRC we manage the downstream page somewhat separately(?)

Comment 4 Richard W.M. Jones 2021-04-27 15:09:21 UTC
mxie could you ACK this one please?

Comment 7 tingting zheng 2021-05-14 06:54:12 UTC
Test the bug with:
virt-v2v-1.42.0-12.module+el8.5.0+10976+d40a93e9.x86_64

1. Check info about 'UEFI on OpenStack' in virt-v2v man page:
# man virt-v2v-support
....

Since OVMF support was only recently added to KVM (in 2014/2015), not
all target environments support UEFI guests yet:
....

       UEFI on OpenStack
           Supported since virt-v2v ≥ 1.43.2.

For "UEFI on OpenStack", it's mentioned in man page:"Supported since virt-v2v ≥ 1.43.2".

Refer to Bug 1872094, the feature has been supported since virt-v2v-1.42.0-7.el8, so do we need to change the version as "virt-v2v ≥ 1.42.0-7" in man page?

Comment 8 Richard W.M. Jones 2021-05-14 09:51:11 UTC
This is an upstream vs downstream version thing. We fixed it upstream
in 1.43.2 (https://github.com/libguestfs/virt-v2v/commit/5fa65a13fbbaab03cb558d0c776c17227433f1b3)
and then backported that commit downstream to 1.42.0
(https://github.com/libguestfs/virt-v2v/commit/9a89fe62dc1327c8f3494ba7386ba192aa79e7a2)

So the message will have to be adjusted in a downstream commit ...

Comment 10 tingting zheng 2021-07-02 02:36:44 UTC
Test the bug with:
virt-v2v-1.42.0-13.module+el8.5.0+11638+3d8f9850.x86_64

1. Check info about 'UEFI on OpenStack' in virt-v2v man page:
# man virt-v2v-support
....

Since OVMF support was only recently added to KVM (in 2014/2015), not
all target environments support UEFI guests yet:
....

       UEFI on OpenStack
           Supported since virt-v2v ≥ 1.42.0-7.

Refer to the above comments, the bug has been fixed, set Verified:Tested.

Comment 12 Richard W.M. Jones 2021-07-19 08:09:36 UTC
The bug has been added to:
https://errata.devel.redhat.com/advisory/75562

However the state is wrong for some reason. I will try manually
setting it to ON_QA.

Comment 13 tingting zheng 2021-07-21 06:35:11 UTC
Repeat the steps in comment 10 with latest virt-v2v build, the results are the same with comment 10.
virt-v2v-1.42.0-14.module+el8.5.0+11846+77888a74.x86_64

The bug has been fixed and move the bug to VERIFIED.
