Description Aldy Hernandez 2006-03-30 18:57:01 UTC
Description of problem:
The installation gets as far as the probing, and gets it correct (radeon 9600 +
Dell 1905 cheap-o monitor). Then the screen blanks. The machine remains
pingable for a while, then locks completely (at least network wise).

I actually installed via text, and on bootup tried "system-config-display".
Locks up hard. No keyboard leds. No network.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install graphically.
2.
3.

Actual results:
Lock.

Expected results:

I don't know if this is related, but I'm trying to use my previous FC4
xorg.conf, and X gives this blurb (while logged in remotely because on the
console it just locks up); after which, it locks up. No network, though caps
lock LEDs work.

I am able to reproduce a very similar problem on a single processor PowerMac G5
with an AGP FX5200 Ultra. As soon as the installer goes into graphical mode, it
either sends the display a refresh rate that it can't handle (on my IBM L191p
LCD) which caues it to blank, or sends it a display mode that goes of the bottom
of the screen (on my Viewsonic A70) preventing me from being able to see the
"Next" buttons, etc.

This only happens when using an analog connection to the monitor. If I use DVI,
it's "fine". Instead of blanking, the screen appears to be about 800x600
centered on the LCD. The LCD's native res is 1280x1024, so this is just an
estimate based on how much of the screen is occupied.
