I'm running the game on gnome-shell on X, the video card is Radeon HD 7770.

Comment 2 Raphael Groner 2020-09-03 09:46:37 UTC
Oh, I'm not using GNOME. Thanks for the screenshot, it looks somehow a borken font or any issue with the GPU.

Comment 3 Creme Brulee 2020-09-03 11:05:15 UTC
One user said that it looked the same for him on Fedora with another video card model but also AMD:
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cape Verde PRO / Venus LE / Tropo PRO-L [Radeon HD 8830M / R7 250 / R7 M465X] (rev 87)

Then he ran it in a VM on Debian with XFCE:

"that's from a Debian 10 XFCE live media running within a VM so YMMV"

on Debian it looks better but still some letters are missing.

To be honest, it's not clear to me what the issue is or what should get fixed. The bad usability can be reported to upstream though.

Comment 5 Raphael Groner 2020-09-09 07:40:29 UTC
Do you use Wayland (instead of Xorg)?

Comment 6 Creme Brulee 2020-09-09 12:48:28 UTC
This issue is observed both with Gnome on Wayland and Gnome on Xorg.

Comment 7 Raphael Groner 2020-09-10 10:16:39 UTC
Wild guess: Could be an issue with unicode table or other font settings as seen quite often. What localization settings do you use?

Comment 8 Creme Brulee 2020-09-10 10:38:25 UTC
That was the first thing I checked. My locale is ja_JP.UTF-8 but when I use en_GB.UTF8, nothing changes. It's locale irrelevant. What is more the program always shows the menu in English.

OK, just been curious. I'm able to reproduce in my Fedora 31 system with Plasma desktop. But TBH I never tried to use the menu and did not know about this feature with ESC key.

That's another bug or separate feature request. Please request upstream to add translation support.

Comment 10 Creme Brulee 2020-09-11 15:47:32 UTC
I don't consider the lack of translation into other languages a bug (unless they intended to support other languages).
But non-working game menu is a serious bug. Through the *working* menu one could configure graphics settings, game difficulty, choose your opponent (AI or human)

I understand your desire to shove the bug request upstream. But on the other hand if the game is not properly supported, how about removing the package from the repository?

Comment 11 Raphael Groner 2020-09-13 07:43:47 UTC
Okay, thanks for testing. We've obviously to investigate more and look deeper, propably work with upstream for a proper fix.
Not sure if upstream is even active. But a b0rken feature is no important reason to orphan immediately, the package still functions as desired.

Comment 12 Raphael Groner 2021-01-27 18:10:59 UTC
Package is orphaned.
