Description of problem: nagios-plugins-ssl_validity 2.3.3-4 wants all of the nagios-plugins to be version 2.3.3-3 instead. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 2.3.3-4 How reproducible: 100% on the two hosts I've tested on Steps to Reproduce: 1. sudo dnf update --refresh 2. sudo dnf install nagios-plugins-all 3. verify nagios-plugins-ssl_validity is installed (rpm -qa nagios-plugins-ssl_validity) 4. sudo dnf update Actual results: ; sudo yum update Error: Problem: cannot install both nagios-plugins-2.3.3-3.el8.x86_64 and nagios-plugins-2.3.3-4.el8.x86_64 - cannot install the best update candidate for package nagios-plugins-ssl_validity-2.3.3-4.el8.x86_64 - cannot install the best update candidate for package nagios-plugins-2.3.3-4.el8.x86_64 (try to add '--allowerasing' to command line to replace conflicting packages or '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages or '--nobest' to use not only best candidate packages) Expected results: Dependencies resolved. Yes, this is a problem due to the fact that 2.3.3-3 had an unversioned restriction in the check_ssl_validity. So the issue is really in version 2.3.3-3 - if you can arrange to only have the 2.3.3-4 versions "visible", it should install normally. I'm sorry about this - the issue is caused by my lack of understanding of how Obsoletes work. (What's happening is that the 2.3.3 versions are obsoleting the 2.3.3-4 versions so the 2.3.3-3 versions take precedence.) I think the best way for you to fix this would be to mask or remove the 2.3.3-3 versions from your repos. Does that help/make sense?

As a test I edited /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/versionlock.list to remove all nagios-plugins.*2.3.3-3 entries and tried a 'dnf update --refresh' on the test host that had the 2.3.3-4 RPMs installed. It completed without error, reporting "Nothing to do." I'm using the EPEL repo metadata without rebuilding. I think as long as the RPMs are there they'll keep showing up for my systems since I auto-build versionlock.list for each round of updates (I'm trying to have actual tested releases of the OS and userland as opposed to just sliming my way from version to version). I guess I'll have to break a rule and put a special case grep -v in my script that builds versionlock.list :( nomad
