I have re-installed RedHat 7.0 on a box that was running RedHat 6.2. The
problem is when you shutdown the box using init 0, before the box would
software power down, now it just sits there after reporting all processess
terminating, umount filesystems, every step except for the power to turn
off.

Thanks

Rob

The behaviour has changed intentionally. The 'poweroff' command does a shutdown
and power off,
the halt command now just halts the machine. This matches the behaviour of other
platforms.

Tried the poweroff command and still hangs with the words "Power down." and the bottom of the screen.

I fixed the problem. On Intel motherboards with Phoenix Bios, if you turn of
advance power management(APM) RedHat will not be able to soft power down.
