Description of problem: Indent fails to correctly parse the following C file: ``` void function(void) { if (condition) /*comment*/ { { int x = 0; } } } ``` When I run `indent -linux example.c`, I get: ``` indent: example.c:9: Error:Stmt nesting error. ``` The program seems to be coalescing the two open braces after the `if` statement. If I remove the comment, the problem goes away. If I don't activate `-linux` mode, the problem goes away. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): indent-2.2.12-5.fc32.x86_64 How reproducible: Consistently.
To be specific, it is the `-br` option that causes the problem, which makes sense since it has to do with the placement of braces around `if` statements.
Thanks for the bug report. I confirm that I can reproduce it. I will try to fix it, but I cannot promise anything. The indent tool is quite rotten.
I believe I know what's the root cause, but I'm unable to fix it. I spent whole day understanding four intermingled state machines that touches the global variables, but it lead to nothing. I forwarded the issue to the dead upstream.
I really appreciate you taking the time to work on the problem! When upstream is dead, there's only so much you can do :-/
This message is a reminder that Fedora 32 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 32 on 2021-05-25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '32'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 32 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
