I am using Thunderbird on a Fedora machine. My desktop manager is Gnome. After the last update the version number for Thunderbird is 78.3.1 After installing Thunderbird (during setup from Fedora 32), two items were added to the Gnome application menu: 'Thunderbird' and 'Thunderbird on Wayland'. The normal way to use 'Search' is by selecting Edit => Search and than a submenu should display. When using 'Thunderbird', the submenu displays as usual.. When using 'Thunderbird on Wayland' (which is my default) the submenu is not displayed. I first posted a message on mozillazine.org (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3066324&sid=fcc99b05a4a44972f1fecead04049eca). According to mozilla.org, this problem is Fedora related and should be filed here. Ben Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 5.8.14-200.fc32.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Oct 7 14:47:56 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Thinderbird 2. Select Edit -> Search 3. Actual results: no results Expected results: submenu Additional info:
Wayland is a set of protocols, the bug described here is not with Wayland but with the implementation - Moving to gtk where this is implemented.
I'm also seeing the issue, on Fedora 33, Gnome 3.38.3 and Thunderbird for Wayland 78.7.0 (64-Bit). Actually, no sub-menu seems to work. When right clicking on a message, the main context menu is shown, but sub-menus are not ("Forward as"). When composing a message, the menu for the spell check language will not open either, in the right part of the status bar.
My default desktop manager is Gnome. While figuring out how I can use an application that is known not to work under Wayland, I changed temporarily to Gnome Xorg. I noticed that Thunderbird for Wayland works fine under Gnoem Xorg. Ben
This message is a reminder that Fedora 32 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 32 on 2021-05-25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '32'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 32 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 32 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-05-25. Fedora 32 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug.
