Description Neha Berry 2020-10-20 11:29:07 UTC
Description of problem:
---------------------------------

Currently, OCS Deployment guides only have following documented for

>>Installing Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage Operator

Approval Strategy as Automatic

But, Users may select Manual(in case they want subsequent Upgrades to be Approval: Manual) Strategy while Installing OCS Operator in Operator Hub

We need to document the Maual procedure too, preferably with screenshots or detailed steps of how to

a) Click on Requires Approval or Upgrade Available in the Subscription Page
b) Preview Install Plan
c) Approve the Install Plan
d) and then OCS Operator starts installing and comes in Succeeded state.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
----------------------------------------------
True for OCS 4.2 through 4.6 but the Manual approval screenshot may look different for OCP 4.6 + OCS 4.6 . Hence, we need to decide which docs we want to backport the new content.

Hi Anjana, Bipin,

Let's consider this bug for upcoming doc asyncs and try to come up with the content

As @mmuench also raised, it would be good to give option to customers to have manual strategy.

automatic strategy means upgrade would also be automatic, and many customers would not want that.

@

uchapaga please help in providing the content

IIRC we already have content for Upgrading with Manual Strategy. Same is applicable here, only difference is user needs to select "Manual" during installation instead of changing channels during upgrades.

Comment 4 Neha Berry 2020-12-14 14:03:09 UTC
Yes we have in Upgrade section, we can use that for reference

But It would be good for us to prepare or let the doc team know the exact content to be added to all deployment guides.

I have verified OCS 4.5 installation on the OCP4.5 cluster on the AWS platform.
Minor correction is needed in step ii of section 1.2

1.2. Installing Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage Operator
    * Approval Strategy as Manual.
      i Click Install
ii On the Manual approval required page, click View Installed Operators in namespace openshift-storage.

My observation is that with OCS 4.5 after clicking on install "View Installed Operators in namespace openshift-storage." link is not available and it redirects to the installed operator page directly.
So remove text "click View Installed Operators in namespace openshift-storage" from step ii

I verified all the preview document links given in Comment7 and it looks good to me.
All the changes as per group discussion and as per drafted g-doc[1] are present in the preview doc.

Hence Marking this BZ as Verified.
