A few questions :)

* Do you mean the system's boot selection menu, or grub?
* Is this a UEFI system and is secure boot on or off? If UEFI with SB on, try booting with it off.
* Can you write the image to a USB Flash drive and boot it that way?

Comment 2 David Ober 2020-10-22 00:17:27 UTC
I tried with secure boot on and off, this is a UEFI system, it does not see the DVD as bootable when I select the CD drive it goes off the boot menu and tries then returns back to the menu. I know the drive works as I can boot the Ubuntu 20.04 DVD correctly. If I burn the ISO to a USB key with fedora media writer it works fine.

Thanks for the quick response,

* Do any previous Fedora versions work?
* What does the kernel cmdline on the Ubuntu iso look like?
* Is there anything at all printed when it tries? Sometimes this can go by too fast to read. I've had success using a phone to record a video of it and slow-step through the frames to see if anything helpful is printed.

Comment 4 David Ober 2020-10-23 12:16:06 UTC
I have not tried other versions of Fedora
Ubuntu cmdline "/casper/vmlinux file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed maybe-ubiquity quiet splash ---"
It does not get that far it appears to not be recognized as a bootable image so blank screen for several seconds then straight back the the F12 boot menu

Hi, our team can also reproduce the problem on X1 Carbon Gen 9 with Fedora33 as the procedure below.

1. Prepared Panther SIT system with preload image Fedora 33, BIOS N30ET32W, and EC N30HT40W
2. Boot the system to OS
3. Prepare Fedora installation disk liveDVD
4. Insert disk into the DVD drive
5. Restart the system and press F1 during Lenovo logo to enter BIOS setup
6. Go to Startup -> Boot, set the USB CD at the top, save and exit BIOS
7. System will boot to OS instead of image installation ===> PROBLEM
8. Reboot the system and enter Boot menu, select DVD drive and observe system cannot boot DVD drive ===>PROBLEM

Can you please share more details about the specific image you burned onto the CD? Was it downloaded from somewhere? Something you built yourself?

Comment 7 David Ober 2021-08-18 15:03:36 UTC
Image was downloaded from the fedora site

This message is a reminder that Fedora 33 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 33 on 2021-11-30.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '33'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 33 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Fedora 33 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-11-30. Fedora 33 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
