RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Resolution and Recommendations

Red Hat recommends that customers run software that is actively maintained in order to get the most benefit of bug fixes and security enhancements released. Customers have the below options to maintain their Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment.

Red Hat strongly suggests that customers migrate to a newer version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, version 7 or 8, to receive the latest features prior to November 30, 2020. If customers need additional migration time, customers may move to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Extended Life Cycle Support (ELS) which delivers certain critical-impact security fixes and selected (at Red Hat discretion) urgent priority bug fixes the below support until June 30, 2024.
In order to receive the ELS maintenance stream, customers must move their Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 environment to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.10.
Customers should also budget for the cost of ELS as this offering is an Add-on and not part of the base Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscription
The ELS Add-on is only available on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Standard and Premium Server Subscriptions
The ELS Add-On covers the IBM z Systems and the x86 architecture

Please see the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Life Cycle page for additional details on ELS and active Red Hat Enterprise Linux life cycle dates.

Your Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscription also entitles you to advice for updating to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux version that is in maintenance. For complex or mission-critical updates you may consider Red Hat Consulting. If interested, take the first step by completing this form.
