RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description xuli 2020-11-02 10:24:03 UTC
Description of Problem:

Cannot install RHEL8.4 nightly build RHEL-8.4.0-20201024.n.0 by iso on ESXi and Hyper-V platforms. Possibly it is regression issue for package gnome-initial-setup-3.28.0-9.el8. This issue cannot reproduce on nightly build RHEL-8.4.0-20201023.n.0. It cannot install by GUI method, but can install by text mode.

Version-Release number of selected components (if applicable):
gnome-initial-setup-3.28.0-9.el8

Nightly build location: http://download.eng.pek2.redhat.com/rhel-8/nightly/RHEL-8/RHEL-8.4.0-20201024.n.0/compose/BaseOS/x86_64/os/

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install RHEL8.4 guest on ESXi and Hyper-V with nightly build RHEL-8.4.0-20201024.n.0 and latest RHEL-8.4.0-20201102.n.0 by iso file by GUI method.
2. Check the guest status.

Actual Results:
1. After selecting the language in the installation screen, then selecting “I want to proceed” button, the vm screen turns to black, cannot install vm anymore .

Expected Results:
1. RHEL 8.4 nightly build can be installed successfully.

Additional Info:
1. If directly yum upgrade all packages from the older compose to RHEL-8.4.0-20201031.n.0, vm boots up normally.

2. The RHEL 8.4 nightly build can be installed by text mode successfully.

3. Refer to change log http://download.eng.pek2.redhat.com/rhel-8/nightly/RHEL-8/RHEL-8.4.0-20201024.n.0/changelogs-internal/
