In current Rawhide, system-config-language is installed on KDE out of the box, but fails to run. Running from a console, after you are prompted for the root password, you get these errors: No protocol specified Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused No protocol specified Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused No protocol specified Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused (system-config-language.py:2146): Gtk-WARNING **: 18:09:41.831: cannot open display: :1 then it exits back to the console.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 34 development cycle. Changing version to 34.
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 34 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 34 on 2022-06-07. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a 'version' of '34'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version' to a later Fedora Linux version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora Linux 34 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version prior to this bug being closed.
It's no longer installed out of the box, and on current Rawhide it works too (well, it runs, no idea if it *works* works). So we can probably close this.
Thank you Adam for providing update here. I am not a KDE user and there has no development happened since last few years for system-config-language but as some spins kept it using its not retired from Fedora. I now found that this package already removed from KDE spin. https://pagure.io/fedora-kickstarts/pull-request/854
Yes, like I said: "It's no longer installed out of the box". But also, if you do install it, it works OK now. No idea what changed.
