Description of problem: There are two variants of this problem: 1) with pulseaudio (and snd_hda_intel module): When multiple monitors are used and one of them is turned off, the media hotkeys (XF86AudioLowerVolume, XF86AudioRiseVolume, XF86AudioMuteVolume) don't work properly: The OSD shows properly, but the mixer is not adjusting the proper HDMI volume. 2) when switching from PA to pipewire, using: $ sudo dnf swap pulseaudio pipewire-pulseaudio (with pipewire 0.3.17 - as with 0.3.15, it would remove lots of packages) After switching the monitor with pavucontrol, the OSD doesn't even appear. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mate-notification-daemon-1.24.1-1.fc33.x86_64 pipewire-libs-0.3.17-3.fc33.x86_64 pipewire-0.3.17-3.fc33.x86_64 pipewire-pulseaudio-0.3.17-3.fc33.x86_64 pipewire-alsa-0.3.17-3.fc33.x86_64 pipewire-gstreamer-0.3.17-3.fc33.x86_64 pipewire-libjack-0.3.17-3.fc33.x86_64 pipewire-plugin-jack-0.3.17-3.fc33.x86_64 pipewire-utils-0.3.17-3.fc33.x86_64 How reproducible: With pipewire, it happens almost all the times. Reproducing with pulseaudio is trickier, as it depends on what monitor is active before turning the second monitor off. Sometimes, it also happens when the configuration is changed between the different HDMI/DP ports. Steps to Reproduce: On a machine with more than one monitor with audio output: 1. Swap from pulseaudio to pipewire; 2. use pavucontrol <config> menu to switch the audio output 3. Use the media keys <Vol Up>, <Vol Down>, <mute> Additional info: This is the mate-settings daemon log (--debug) when the configuration is switched to the second monitor: (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-pulse-DEBUG: 21:24:26.215: Default input stream changed to unknown stream @DEFAULT_SOURCE@ (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-pulse-DEBUG: 21:24:26.215: Default output stream changed to unknown stream @DEFAULT_SINK@ (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-pulse-DEBUG: 21:24:26.232: Created port list for sink alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra5 (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-DEBUG: 21:24:26.232: Stream alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra5 default control changed to alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra5 (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-pulse-DEBUG: 21:24:55.597: Created port list for sink alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra2 (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-DEBUG: 21:24:55.597: Stream alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra2 default control changed to alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra2 (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-pulse-DEBUG: 21:25:02.565: Created port list for sink alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra5 (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-DEBUG: 21:25:02.565: Stream alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra5 default control changed to alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra5 ** (mate-settings-daemon:109681): DEBUG: 21:25:13.336: housekeeping: checking thumbnail cache size and freshness (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-pulse-DEBUG: 21:25:52.194: Created port list for sink alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra2 (mate-settings-daemon:109681): libmatemixer-DEBUG: 21:25:52.194: Stream alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra2 default control changed to alsa_output.pci-0000:01:00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra2

This message is a reminder that Fedora 33 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 33 on 2021-11-30. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '33'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 33 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 33 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-11-30. Fedora 33 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
