Description Miroslav Suchý 2020-12-16 08:38:47 UTC
Description of problem:
At the end of a transaction, DNF verify the transaction. E.g.:

  Verifying : vim-common-2:8.2.2115-1.fc33.x86_64

This almost instant action. Even for a hundred packages.

I propose to not print this long list on tty (it may stay in log). And just print the summary. E.g.:

  Verifying transaction: OK

Oh, indeed! +100

The verification phase is one of those stranger leftovers from yum, it's just a whole lot of non-information distracting from what really went on. If you want to preserve a progress bar then put it all in one line, similar to how rpm does the "preparing..." stage, but as dnf doesn't do that (which can actually some time), it might just as well just print that one line saying "verifying, ok/fail".

I created a PR that remove the report from output - https://github.com/rpm-software-management/dnf/pull/1990.

Comment 3 Fedora Update System 2023-10-18 15:10:43 UTC
FEDORA-2023-a066057708 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 39. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2023-a066057708

Comment 4 Adam Williamson 2023-10-18 18:26:09 UTC
I think this broke anaconda. Fun, huh? Confirming RN.

Comment 5 Fedora Update System 2023-10-19 02:17:10 UTC
FEDORA-2023-a066057708 has been pushed to the Fedora 39 testing repository.
Soon you'll be able to install the update with the following command:
`sudo dnf upgrade --enablerepo=updates-testing --refresh --advisory=FEDORA-2023-a066057708`
You can provide feedback for this update here: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2023-a066057708

See also https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Updates_Testing for more information on how to test updates.

Comment 6 Jan Kolarik 2023-10-19 08:44:53 UTC
I am switching the target version here to Rawhide, where it was fixed by FEDORA-2023-b2e727c6f6, see also https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2023-b2e727c6f6. Anaconda in Rawhide should be working with this change (https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/pull/5229). And I am going to patch the dnf in other Fedora downstreams to not include this change.
