Description Vinu Moses 2020-12-24 01:57:55 UTC
Description of problem:
Wi-fi keeps resetting with kernel OOPS whenever the wi-fi network link is under load.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
linux-firmware-20201218-116.fc33.noarch
iwl7260-firmware-25.30.13.0-116.fc33.noarch
kernel-5.9.15-200.fc33.x86_64

iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: Loaded firmware version: 46.4d093a30.0 9260-th-b0-jf-b0-46.ucode

iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: Detected Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9260 160MHz, REV=0x324

DMI: System manufacturer System Product Name/TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI), BIOS 3001 12/04/2020

How reproducible:
This occurs whenever there is significant activity on the wi-fi, like transferring a large file or syncing between computers. It happens more frequently on the 5 GHz link than on a 2.4 GHz link.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot computer and connect to a wi-fi network
2. Start a large file transfer or rsync between two computers

Actual results:
1. Network link resets; this keeps happening again and again at short intervals
2. Once file transfer or rsync is over, the link is relatively stable again.

Expected results:
Network link should be stable throughout the file transfer or rsync.

The OOPS persists with the newer kernel-5.9.16-200.fc33.x86_64.

Comment 2 Peter Robinson 2020-12-31 10:05:09 UTC
Can you try with one of the 5.10 test kernels?

5.10.4 is here: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1663265

Interestingly it was only the bluetooth firmware that was updated in the last linux-firmware update, not the wifi, so I would have thought 5ghz would be unaffected as bluetooth is on 2.4.

Can you also give me the output of the following 2 commands:
lsusb| grep -i blue
lspci | grep Wireless

[vinu@vinu ~]$ lsusb | grep -i blue
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 8087:0025 Intel Corp. Wireless-AC 9260 Bluetooth Adapter

[vinu@vinu ~]$ lspci | grep Wireless
04:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless-AC 9260 (rev 29)

I'll install a 5.10 test kernel from koji over this weekend, test and post the results soon.

It crashes with the latest test kernel as well.

The kernel OOPS occurs with the latest test kernel as well - kernel-5.10.5-200.fc33.x86_64

Comment 6 nijaru0x 2021-01-09 21:51:04 UTC
I am using the same motherboard and my wifi is not working at all. Using Fedora 33 on kernel 5.9.16

Comment 7 Vinu Moses 2021-01-20 01:01:52 UTC
Intermittent kernel OOPS persists with the latest fedora 33 stable kernel-5.10.7-200.fc33.x86_64

Comment 8 Ben Cotton 2021-11-04 16:16:28 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 33 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 33 on 2021-11-30.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '33'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 33 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 9 Ben Cotton 2021-11-30 17:45:13 UTC
Fedora 33 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-11-30. Fedora 33 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
