Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because
the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.
Description of problem:
Can not install Fedora 30/31 with "Download an OS" Installation type, URL could not be accessed
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
cockpit-machines-234-1.el8.noarch
libvirt-dbus-1.3.0-2.module+el8.3.0+6423+e4cb6418.x86_64
How reproducible:
100%
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click "Create VM"
Input Name, Installation type : "Download an OS"
Choose :
Fedora Silverblue 30
Fedora Silverblue 31
Fedora 30
Fedora 31
Actual results:
Failed because url could not be accessed, message like:
ERROR Error validating install location: Could not find an installable distribution at 'https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/31/Everything/x86_64/os': The URL could not be accessed, maybe you mistyped? The location must be the root directory of an install tree. See virt-install man page for various distro examples.
Expected results:
All listed vms can be installed.
Additional info:
Although it's not a direct cockpit issue, but I think we'd better to check these link first before listed them if possible , or add that step in other component.
Checking the validity of all URLs for the installations trees of the operating systems that we display in the list is a very expensive operation to do.
I think it's on osinfo-db to update the database in a more automated and frequent way. Of course this is a change that I don't expect to happen right away.
Both of the issues you found are however fixed upstream in osinfo-db so it would be solved once the maintainers make a downstream release for RHEL-8.
@fidencio can you please make a release containing at least the two commits listed below?
