Description Christina Meno 2021-01-06 16:17:41 UTC
Describe the issue:
In the past we met to discuss how to best satisfy
the situation that we don't have detailed periodic cluster
health/sanity information available for customers and support to
review when problems arise.

Options we considered were:
* enhance ceph-medic to run periodically
* use ceph health detail (CHD from here on out)

Comparing the two options we found:
* CHD is installed by default and runs from within the cluster while
medic needs to be explicitly installed and told about the cluster
nodes
* CHD can be easily run periodically by using the orchestrator / mgr
* CHD has all the checks medic has and more
* looking forward medic would have to be taught about cephadm and how
to address the cluster in that context

So we recommend
This work performed in RHCS-4.2
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1891098
instead of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1878312
and
This would mean that ceph-medic is deprecated in RHCS4.2 and beyond
