Doc Text:
.Running Samba as a PDC or BDC is deprecated The classic domain controller mode that enabled administrators to run Samba as an NT4-like primary domain controller (PDC) and backup domain controller (BDC) is deprecated. The code and settings to configure these modes will be removed in a future Samba release. As long as the Samba version in RHEL 8 provides the PDC and BDC modes, Red Hat supports these modes only in existing installations with Windows versions which support NT4 domains. Red Hat recommends not setting up a new Samba NT4 domain, because Microsoft operating systems later than Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 do not support NT4 domains. If you use the PDC to authenticate only Linux users, Red Hat suggests migrating to link:https://access.redhat.com/products/identity-management[Red Hat Identity Management (IdM)] that is included in RHEL subscriptions. However, you cannot join Windows systems to an IdM domain. Note that Red Hat continues supporting the PDC functionality IdM uses in the background. Red Hat does not support running Samba as an AD domain controller (DC).

Description Marc Muehlfeld 2021-02-08 09:23:26 UTC
Write a release note for RHEL 8.4:

https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.13.0.html

NT4-like 'classic' Samba domain controllers
-------------------------------------------

Samba 4.13 deprecates Samba's original domain controller mode.

Sites using Samba as a Domain Controller should upgrade from the
NT4-like 'classic' Domain Controller to a Samba Active Directory DC
to ensure full operation with modern windows clients.

Hi,

Since the issue described in this bug should be resolved (VERIFIED), could you please close this bug with resolution 'CURRENTRELEASE' if this bug got fixed ?

If the fix for this is not released yet, check if this will ever get fixed. In case of a negative answer then please change it as WONTFIX.

If there's anything else to be done on this BZ, if it's still active, not released yet and we actually intend to release it, then please ignore my message.

Please note: for those bugs which are not included in errata, please add 'TestOnly' keyword, and those bugs with 'TestOnly' keyword will be closed automatically after GA.
TestOnly: Use this when there is no code delivery involved, or for use when code is already upstream and will be incorporated automatically to the next release for testing purposes only.

Thank you.
