Description of problem: Fedora plays .dsf DSD files using mpd, for example, but handling them is limited. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): sox-14.4.2.0-29.fc33.x86_64 soxr-0.1.3-8.fc33.x86_64 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install sox. 2. Enter a command like: sox in.dsf out.dsf rate -v 11289600 gain 6 rate -v 88200 sdm 3. Observe error message. Actual results: Message: "sox FAIL formats: no handler for file extension `dsf'" Expected results: File out.dsf containing resampled DSD data. It's up to the main maintainer of the sox package not me, but in general it's not a good idea to change the package for the whole distro to a fork without a very good reason, such as the original no longer being maintained. The best solution is for the author of the fork to get his contributions added to the mainline package. That being said sox.sourceforge.net timed out and the latest release was in 2015.
You must have been unlucky; http://sox.sourceforge.net/ is workign now. According to https://sourceforge.net/p/sox/mailman/sox-devel/?viewmonth=202102 development is still going on, as of Feb 2021. This user obviously has a version of sox that will convert DSD to DSD: https://sourceforge.net/p/sox/mailman/message/36013586/ I am unclear as to who should do what next :(
It's not my favorite solution but what about diff'ing the two projects and seeing if it's worth adding it to Fedora as a patch? That way we stay with canonical upstream and can drop the patch if it becomes a problem.
If I remember well, Mans should have privileges to add a content to Source Forge's git. From time to time Mans patches are merged to Source Forge, but in case of features like this it can be a long time run.

SoX was hard forked in May 2024 and since then is maintained at https://codeberg.org/sox_ng/sox_ng It fixes all the CVEs, a slew of other bugs and, since 14.6.0, includes DSD support and more. 14.7.0 is the latest new-feature release but it only went out on 18 Nov 2025 so has not yet undergone six months of user-testing like 14.6.0 has. 21 non-derivative distros have switched to it, of which the largest is ArchLinux, and I've had no complaints from any of them. I don't seem to have a RedHat-specific page of notes but https://codeberg.org/sox_ng/sox_ng/wiki/Distro-Fedora may be relevant.
