RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description rob.conde 2021-02-23 19:33:06 UTC
Description of problem:
In upgrading mesa from 18.0.5 to 18.3.4 the supported shader language version (viewable through glxinfo) was downgraded from 1.30 to 1.20. When building from source this issue is not seen.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
18.3.4

How reproducible:
consistently

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get a redhat 7 instance with mesa 18.0.5
2. run glxinfo
3. "OpenGL shading language version string" reported as 1.30
4. Update mesa to latest
5. run glxinfo
6. "OpenGL shading language version string" reported as 1.20

Actual results:
"OpenGL shading language version string" reported as 1.20

Expected results:
"OpenGL shading language version string" reported as 1.30 (or greater)

Additional info:
Since the issue is not present when building from source, it's a good bet this is due to custom build settings used when creating this package.

Note this is for the llvmpipe driver.

Comment 3 Dave Airlie 2021-02-24 02:51:24 UTC
yes that was a mistake in the llvmpipe driver.

It is not legal to expose GL2.1 with GLSL 1.30, GLSL 1.30 is only legal for GL 3.0

Comment 4 rob.conde 2021-02-24 13:43:48 UTC
Ok - interesting. Is there a reason it is built to GL2.1 when the default is built to 3.1? I think previously there was a feature required for OpenGL 3.1 that needed to be disabled for patent reasons but the patent has since expired.

Comment 5 Dave Airlie 2021-02-24 21:58:27 UTC
There was a patent around hardware floating point texture support that limited it 2.1 for us. That patent expired after we stopped updating RHEL7 for new features if memory serves.

In RHEL 8 llvmpipe should report GL 3.3 and I think RHEL8.4 should report GL4.5.

Thanks for the context...much appreciated.
