Description of problem: eyeD3 throws an error about mimetype.py plugin when listing available plugins. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): python3-eyed3-0.9.6-1.fc33.noarch How reproducible: Always. Steps to Reproduce: 1. eyeD3 -L Actual results: eyed3.plugins:ERROR: Bad plugin ('mimetype.py', '/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/eyed3/plugins') Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/eyed3/plugins/__init__.py", line 56, in load mod = __import__(mod_name, globals=globals(), locals=locals()) File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/eyed3/plugins/mimetype.py", line 33, in <module> _python_magic = MagicTypes() File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/eyed3/plugins/mimetype.py", line 18, in __init__ magic.Magic.__init__(self, mime=True, mime_encoding=False, keep_going=True) TypeError: __init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'mime' ... Expected results: No ERROR. Additional info: This is a regression from previous version (0.8-11.fc33).
I have python3-file-magic-5.39-3.fc33.noarch installed, which might be relevant.
All mimetype tests were skipped during build: https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//packages/python-eyed3/0.9.6/1.fc33/data/logs/noarch/build.log ... tests/test_mimetype.py ssssssss [ 35%]
Created attachment 1759946 [details] patch to skip tests requiring data files to be present The attached patch allows using simply: %check py.test-%{python3_version} for the %check section (i.e. without ignoring any tests). It'd be better to include upstream test data and run all tests, though, if possible.
(In reply to Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski from comment #1) > I have python3-file-magic-5.39-3.fc33.noarch installed, which might be > relevant. The mimetype plugin depends on python3-magic, not python3-file-magic. As those packages conflict, it is probably best to not install the mimetype plugin, or possibly split it out to a subpackage so that those who really want it can go through the dependency pain. It would be even better if the conflict between the python packages was resolved, but I guess that will not be easy (given that the names are longstanding at this point). (In reply to Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski from comment #3) > Created attachment 1759946 [details] > patch to skip tests requiring data files to be present That looks like something that should be reported upstream: https://github.com/nicfit/eyeD3/compare > The attached patch allows using simply: > %check > py.test-%{python3_version} > > for the %check section (i.e. without ignoring any tests). > > It'd be better to include upstream test data and run all tests, though, if > possible. The Makefile downloads a tarball and extracts the test data from it, which does not seem great. It might be worth an upstream issue to improve the situation: https://github.com/nicfit/eyeD3/issues/new/choose
Same on Fedora 34 with *any* invocation of eyeD3 (doesn't need "-L"). Appears to be the same issue; do you want a separate (F34) bug? python3-eyed3-0.9.6-2.fc34.noarch python3-file-magic-5.39-5.fc34.noarch Actual results: (without passing a filename, but same if you pass one) eyed3.plugins:ERROR: Bad plugin ('mimetype.py', '/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/eyed3/plugins') Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/eyed3/plugins/__init__.py", line 56, in load mod = __import__(mod_name, globals=globals(), locals=locals()) File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/eyed3/plugins/mimetype.py", line 33, in <module> _python_magic = MagicTypes() File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/eyed3/plugins/mimetype.py", line 18, in __init__ magic.Magic.__init__(self, mime=True, mime_encoding=False, keep_going=True) TypeError: __init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'mime' No audio files found.
(In reply to Tim Jackson from comment #5) > Same on Fedora 34 with *any* invocation of eyeD3 (doesn't need "-L"). > Appears to be the same issue; do you want a separate (F34) bug? I can only reproduce by using the mimetype plugin (such as with the -L argument), not when calling eyeD3 without arguments, nor by specifying an audio file. As already mentioned, having python3-file-magic installed is not relevant.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 33 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 33 on 2021-11-30. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '33'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 33 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Still an issue on F35 if python-file-magic is installed. If I remove python3-file-magic and install python3-magic, there's no error. However, there seems to be a bug in python3-file-magic package, because it seems to want to replace python3-magic: $ dnf repoquery --obsoletes python3-file-magic python3-magic < 5.40-9.fc35 And, there's a bug in python3-magic as it requires file-devel: $ rpm -qR python3-magic | grep file file-devel What a mess...

Still reproducible (using -L) on Fedora 42 with python3-eyed3-0.9.7-8.fc42.noarch
