Description of problem: GDM will keep trying, and failing, to get information from the fingerprint reader. This will force the user to wait till a timeout finally happens, so the user will be able to normally insert their password. This happens while the fingerprint login is not enabled, and has never been configured, Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gdm-40~beta-1.fc34.x86_64 gnome-shell-40.0~beta-1.fc34.x86_64 How reproducible: 100%, if you're laptop has a fingerprint reader Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot the system up 2. Wait till the login screen shows up 3. Try to insert the password Actual results: You'll notice you won't be able to, as the failures related to reading the user' s fingerprint will be showing up, which makes GDM not accept the password entered. Expected results: GDM shouldn't even try to get info from the fingerprint reader if this is not configured. Additional info:
Okay, TomአPopela pointed me to https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/XA3TQMHT5RFUQE6M5IS3PDUTAFWZSQOW/, which seems to be exactly the same issue I'm facing. I'll follow this up there, but also leave this one open.
