Description of problem: Firefox 86.0 (64 bit) can't establish a connection to https://medlineplus.gov/. Tested with a new profile and in private windows. My other devices (Firefox Nightly on one) open the site perfectly fine. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): firefox-86.0-7.fc33 How reproducible: Always. First noticed a few weeks ago. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Point your Firefox to, say https://medlineplus.gov/genetics/chromosome/y or just https://medlineplus.gov/ Actual results: Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at medlineplus.gov. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
You're right, I can reproduce it too.
Looks like a problem with DNS/IPV6. I'm getting: $ wget https://medlineplus.gov/ --2021-03-18 11:11:14-- https://medlineplus.gov/ Resolving medlineplus.gov (medlineplus.gov)... 2607:f220:41e:1016::160 Connecting to medlineplus.gov (medlineplus.gov)|2607:f220:41e:1016::160|:443... failed: Network is unreachable. $ host medlineplus.gov medlineplus.gov is an alias for medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov. medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has address 65.9.96.5 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has address 65.9.96.99 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has address 65.9.96.94 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has address 65.9.96.10 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has IPv6 address 2600:9000:2127:5800:1:6b7c:7400:93a1 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has IPv6 address 2600:9000:2127:d800:1:6b7c:7400:93a1 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has IPv6 address 2600:9000:2127:c800:1:6b7c:7400:93a1 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has IPv6 address 2600:9000:2127:ec00:1:6b7c:7400:93a1 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has IPv6 address 2600:9000:2127:400:1:6b7c:7400:93a1 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has IPv6 address 2600:9000:2127:2200:1:6b7c:7400:93a1 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has IPv6 address 2600:9000:2127:9200:1:6b7c:7400:93a1 medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov has IPv6 address 2600:9000:2127:da00:1:6b7c:7400:93a1 At least opening https://medlineplus.awsprod.nlm.nih.gov/ shows me something. When setting network.dns.disableIPv6 to false at about:config the https://medlineplus.gov/ page works.
Seems to be caused by https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/systemd-resolved The site works in Fedora 32 without it. $ resolvectl query medlineplus.gov medlineplus.gov: 2607:f220:41e:1016::160 -- link: enp68s0 -- Information acquired via protocol DNS in 814us. -- Data is authenticated: no So we're getting IPV6 only from systemd-resolved.
I and others are seeing something similar in F34 currently. Filed separately as F33 and F34 are on fairly different systemd versions, so it may not actually be the same bug. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1940715
This is strange... I don't see why it would suddenly start to fail in F33. For anyone who can reproduce this on F33, what systemd.rpm version you have?
Also, please install systemd-tests and call /usr/lib/systemd/tests/manual/test-nss dns medlineplus.gov /usr/lib/systemd/tests/manual/test-nss resolve medlineplus.gov and attach the output here.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 33 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 33 on 2021-11-30. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '33'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 33 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
On an IPv6-capable connection, I'm getting both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for medlineplus.gov in Rawhide. Can anyone who was affected by this check it on F34, F35 or Rawhide?
No issues on F35, everything's fine.
Fedora 33 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-11-30. Fedora 33 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
