Description Chris Murphy 2021-03-18 04:58:17 UTC
Description of problem:

Looks like grubby is not btrfs subvolume aware :P when one is mounted at /boot.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
grubby-8.40-51.fc34.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. grubby --add-kernel=/boot/vmlinuz-5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64 --copy-default --initrd=/boot/initramfs-5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64.img --title=5.11.6TESTER

2.
3.

Actual results:

title 5.11.6TESTER
version 5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64
linux /vmlinuz-5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64
initrd /initramfs-5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64.img
options root=UUID=32291cea-4dee-4e0d-bdf3-813314e2ab10 ro rootflags=subvol=root34
id fedora-20210312041911-5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64
grub_users $grub_users
grub_arg --unrestricted
grub_class kernel

Expected results:

title 5.11.6TESTER
version 5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64
linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64
initrd /boot/initramfs-5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64.img
options root=UUID=32291cea-4dee-4e0d-bdf3-813314e2ab10 ro rootflags=subvol=root34
id fedora-20210312041911-5.11.6-300.fc34.x86_64
grub_users $grub_users
grub_arg --unrestricted
grub_class kernel

Additional info:

Easy work around, just edit the BLS and add /boot/ prefix, or whatever the name of the subvolume is, as reported by /proc/mounts as subvol= for the /boot line.

Comment 1 Chris Murphy 2021-04-27 04:08:13 UTC
Variation of this found in bug 1953828. In that case the --args/--remove-args commands fail when --update-kernel=/boot/vmlinuz... rather than --update-kernel=/boot/boot/vmlinuz... but somehow --set-default= is not affected, nor is -update-kernel=ALL

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 34 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 34 on 2022-06-07.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a

plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 34 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 37 development cycle.
Changing version to 37.
