RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Ryan Mullett 2021-03-29 17:43:09 UTC
Description of problem:
The xccdf_org.ssgproject.content_rule_package_MFEhiplsm_installed check shows failure when SELinux is enabled. According to the description of this rule, if SELinux is enabled the MFEHipslsm module does not need to be installed or enabled, and it is not compatible with SELinux:

description: |-
Install the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) Module if it is absolutely
necessary. If SELinux is enabled, do not install or enable this module.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. # cd /usr/share/xml/scap/ssg/content
2. # oscap xccdf eval --profile stig --rule package_MFEhiplsm_installed --fetch-remote-resources --results ~/results.xml --report ~/report.html ssg-rhel7-xccdf.xml

Actual results:
# oscap xccdf eval --profile stig --rule package_MFEhiplsm_installed --fetch-remote-resources --results ~/results.xml --report ~/report.html ssg-rhel7-xccdf.xml
Downloading: https://www.redhat.com/security/data/oval/com.redhat.rhsa-RHEL7.xml ... ok
Title Install the Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) Module
Rule package_MFEhiplsm_installed
Ident CCE-80368-4
Result fail

Expected results:
Description should be changed to properly reflect the current situation now that SELinux and HIPS are no longer incompatible.

Comment 2 Marek Haicman 2021-04-01 13:43:46 UTC
Hello.
I do interpret the description as a reverse implication. That means not that SELinux is a replacement for HIPS, but that HIPS is incompatible with SELinux. Now quick search revealed it was historically correct: https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB83450&locale=en_US

Given the links content, the description probably could get an update. Either to explicitly state the patch version with the support, or just omit the statement about SELinux. The behaviour is correct, though.

Ryan, if you agree, let's change the summary of the BZ to point out it's a description inaccuracy only.
