When I try to use Zoom or Skype using the internal microphone, different persons said that the sound quality is very (and unusable) bad. There is some acoustic noise. I verified that by having a 1:1 phone call with my wife. After that I tested it using an external Blue Yeti X microphone. This improved the quality (the acoustic noise disappeared), but it still was not good, Using the same microphones in Windows leads to much better results. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 34 Silverblue Beta Version: 34.20210330.n.0 (2021-03-30T08:09:55Z) How reproducible: Video Chat per Skype or Zoom using their apps from flathub Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download the native Zoom or Skype app from flathub 2. Open a video or voice only call via the app 3. Select internal micro and internal speakers Actual results: The person with whom I have a phone call says that I sound bad and that there is some noise. Expected results: The sound quality should not be worse as if another os (like windows) is used Additional info: For version of libs see attached file Current Fedora Silverblue version: ● ostree://fedora:fedora/34/x86_64/silverblue Version: 34.20210330.n.0 (2021-03-30T08:09:55Z) BaseCommit: bcfb7ca96df484b3b42768a265a2429d3e4d6b95bdd000fb744da41f72dca47d GPGSignature: Valid signature by 8C5BA6990BDB26E19F2A1A801161AE6945719A39 LayeredPackages: akmod-nvidia fedora-workstation-repositories podman-compose xorg-x11-drv-nvidia zsh LocalPackages: rpmfusion-nonfree-release-34-0.2.noarch rpmfusion-free-release-34-0.3.noarch Note that it isn‘t a fresh install. I don't know if I should open a new bug for this but I can also reproduce this problem on Google Meet, Jitsi Meet and Gnome's Sound Recorder App. This is the version of pipewire: $ rpm -qa | grep pipewire pipewire0.2-libs-0.2.7-5.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-0.3.24-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-libs-0.3.24-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-alsa-0.3.24-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-gstreamer-0.3.24-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-jack-audio-connection-kit-0.3.24-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-pulseaudio-0.3.24-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-utils-0.3.24-4.fc34.x86_64
Same with me. ➜ ~ rpm -qa | grep pipewire pipewire0.2-libs-0.2.7-5.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-libs-0.3.30-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-0.3.30-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-alsa-0.3.30-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-gstreamer-0.3.30-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-jack-audio-connection-kit-0.3.30-4.fc34.x86_64 pipewire-utils-0.3.30-4.fc34.x86_64
Forgot to revert back and tell my results. It was at 100% by default on a fresh fedora 34 install. But when I put that slider at about 25-35%, I didn't get the bad microphone audio quality problem again. You may want to adjust the slider based on your preferences but keep that slider below 50%.
