Description andrii.verbytskyi 2021-04-03 10:21:33 UTC
Dear all,

here is a short description of the issue I see with HepMC3-rootIO subpackage.

The current version of HepMC3-rootIO in Fedora was built against root-6.22.06.
However, it looks there were some internal changes in ROOT between root-6.22.06 and the current root-6.22.08, so root-6.22.08 fails to load modules compiled against root-6.22.06.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

HepMC3-rootIO-3.2.3
root-6.22.06
root-6.22.08

How reproducible:
Always on Fedora33 and Rawhide.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install HepMC3-rootIO and root packages
2. Run

root -b -l -q -n -e '{return gSystem->Load("/usr/lib64/root/libHepMC3rootIO.so");}'

or load libHepMC3rootIO.so in any other way

Actual results:

[user@localhost]# root -b -l -q -n -e '{return gSystem->Load("/usr/lib64/root/libHepMC3rootIO.so");}'

malloc(): invalid size (unsorted)
[user@localhost]#

Expected results:

[user@localhost]# root -b -l -q -n -e '{return gSystem->Load("/usr/lib64/root/libHepMC3rootIO.so");}'

[user@localhost]#

means module was load w/o any problems.

Additional info:

A simple recompilation of HepMC3 src.rpm against the current root 6.22.08 solves the issue.

Best regards,

Andrii
