RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Brian Mathis 2021-04-03 22:19:15 UTC
Description of problem:
When using the graphical installer from the main Installation Summary screen, transitions and banner notifications use an animated sliding effect. When performing a graphical install remotely through a slow/remote/distant network, such as through a VM console, these animations cause the installer to become extremely slow while the animation redraw occurs.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Perform a graphical installation using a remote VM console over a slow network
2. Observe slow response

Actual results:
- Animations cause screen to redraw many times, and interface becomes very slow

Expected results:
- Without animations, the screen would only need to redraw once, increasing responsiveness of installer

Additional info:
- Installation is done in basic graphics mode (from the troubleshooting menu) with a manually specified resolution (1024x768) due to resolution not being correctly detected within the virt-manager GUI.
- While a remote GUI install is probably not the best approach, it is something that is available, so the experience should be optimized to work as well as possible. As this is a server-targeted OS, and installation is not a typical user-facing activity, animations can easily be removed without impacting the overall UX of the OS.

After evaluating this issue, there are no plans to address it further or fix it in an upcoming release. Therefore, it is being closed. If plans change such that this issue will be fixed in an upcoming release, then the bug can be reopened.

Usability issue, reopening for review.
Animations should make the product easier to use, not harder to use.

Hello we have decided to not implement this request. There are several reason why we don't want to do that.

This issue is RFE because the described problem is present from the beginning of the new UI and I did not see users requesting this change.
The implementation is not trivial. We can remove all the animations but it could result in a bad UX and issues filed to Anaconda. Another solution is to add a new boot option to remove animations on demand but that could be harder to discover by users and it's API specificaly created for only one issue.

There are also easy workarounds to this as using text UI or kickstart automatic installation.

Closing as Won't fix.
