There are known performance issues with larger workloads that need to be profiled and optimized for. This bug is to track this optimization work.
Upstream patches are on track to merge to upstream development branch. Another contributor has already committed to backporting them to the last stable release, so we should be able to pickup the latest stable branch once we're ready to test. Some discussion is ongoing to improve performance in regards to Nova interacting with Ironic, however we've not recieved any feedback from the Nova community on one of the proposed changes which should reduce one of the highest cost/lowest reward queries presently utilized in a Nova deployment.
Patches merged to stable/wallaby. Candidate build rpm is now available. Ironic includes two scripts which can be used to measure performance. One generates 10,000 fake test nodes. another performs some basic exercise to measure time elapsed while performing operations like querying the database or requesting all nodes. https://opendev.org/openstack/ironic/src/branch/master/tools/benchmark
