After I upgraded my system from Fedora 33 to Fedora 34, I can no longer output any sound through the HDMI interface. I originally assumed that the problem might be caused by the switch from pulseaudio to pipewire, but it seems that the problem is already present at the alsa level: [thomas@htpc ~]$ aplay -L null Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture) pipewire PipeWire Sound Server default Default ALSA Output (currently PipeWire Media Server) hdmi:CARD=HDMI,DEV=0 HDA ATI HDMI, HDMI 0 HDMI Audio Output [thomas@htpc ~]$ speaker-test -c2 -f440 -tsine -Dhdmi:CARD=HDMI,DEV=0 speaker-test 1.2.4 Playback device is hdmi:CARD=HDMI,DEV=0 Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels Sine wave rate is 440.0000Hz Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz) Buffer size range from 64 to 8544000 Period size range from 32 to 4272000 Using max buffer size 8544000 Periods = 4 Unable to set hw params for playback: Cannot allocate memory Setting of hwparams failed: Cannot allocate memory
Workaround: echo 8192 > /proc/asound/card1/pcm3p/sub0/prealloc You may set this value for all pcm devices for the HDMI card.

Will there eventually be a fix for the underlying issue? Is there a location for me to watch, to keep me updated?
