Description Jesse Pretorius 2021-05-20 16:23:19 UTC
As noted in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1962365 a new version of leapp has released with a new set of prerequisites for leapp to be successful.

In https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_openstack_platform/16.1/html-single/framework_for_upgrades_13_to_16.1/index#performing-a-leapp-upgrade-on-the-undercloud we need an additional step between step 5 (to_keep/to_remove) and step 8 (running leapp).

--- start
Unload the kernel modules that are no longer supported in RHEL 8.

$ sudo lsmod | grep -q floppy && sudo rmmod floppy
$ sudo lsmod | grep -q pata_acpi && sudo rmmod pata_acpi

--- end

Then step 8 needs to be adjusted as follows:

--- start
$ export LEAPP_UNSUPPORTED=1
$ export LEAPP_DEVEL_TARGET_RELEASE=8.2
$ sudo -E leapp upgrade --debug --enablerepo rhel-8-for-x86_64-baseos-eus-rpms --enablerepo rhel-8-for-x86_64-appstream-eus-rpms --enablerepo fast-datapath-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms --enablerepo ansible-2.9-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms
--- end

The LEAPP_DEVEL_TARGET_RELEASE environment variable tells leapp which target RHEL version it should upgrade to, and the LEAPP_UNSUPPORTED activates the previous variable.

It should be noted that this target version configuration for leapp is only supported in OpenStack environments.

For the overcloud we need to facilitate the same things in a different way.

In https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_openstack_platform/16.1/html-single/framework_for_upgrades_13_to_16.1/index#creating-an-upgrades-environment-file-overcloud-leapp we need to add the following to the upgrades-environment.yaml file:

UpgradeLeappDevelSkip: "LEAPP_UNSUPPORTED=1 LEAPP_DEVEL_TARGET_RELEASE=8.2"

And then also add:

LeappInitCommand: |
  sudo lsmod | grep -q floppy && sudo rmmod floppy
  sudo lsmod | grep -q pata_acpi && sudo rmmod pata_acpi

Reopening this to apply more edits to the 5.2. Performing a Leapp upgrade on the undercloud.

We're going to have to revise these docs again. These entries now need to read:

for module in pata_acpi floppy; do sudo sed "/^${module}$/d" /usr/share/leapp-repository/repositories/system_upgrade/el7toel8/actors/kernel/checkkerneldrivers/files/removed_drivers.txt; done

This is necessary to make this work until 16.1.7 releases.

Hi Jesse,

I've been able to publish the changes for the 16.1 docs:

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_openstack_platform/16.1/html-single/framework_for_upgrades_13_to_16.1/index#performing-a-leapp-upgrade-on-the-undercloud

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_openstack_platform/16.1/html-single/framework_for_upgrades_13_to_16.1/index#creating-an-upgrades-environment-file-overcloud-leapp

And for the 16.2-beta docs, I've published the docs, but it seems to be taking a while for the updates to be reflected. They should be available within the next half hour.

I'll create another MR with the changes that will be required for 16.1.7 and 16.2 RC next week, and get back to you.

Many thanks!

Unfortunately I made a type - that sed command needs to have a -i argument applied to edit the files in-place.

for module in pata_acpi floppy; do sudo sed -i "/^${module}$/d" /usr/share/leapp-repository/repositories/system_upgrade/el7toel8/actors/kernel/checkkerneldrivers/files/removed_drivers.txt; done

Sorry about that. :(
