Description H.-P. Sorge 2021-06-03 23:31:23 UTC
Description of problem:
In Konsole some UTF characters (like ⍝ (e28d9d) - APL comment)
take two character positions.
When entered, the left half of the character gets displayed.
Then [SPACE] and the right half of the character gets displayed.
The following characters being entered 'are off by one'.
When selected, the affected characters take only on character position.

Chinese characters take two character positions, regardless of being
selected or not.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Display some UTF chars:

for ((a=128;a<192;a=a+1)); do
    for ((n=128;n<190;n=n+1));do
         printf -vh '\\x%2x\\x%2x\\x%2x' 226 $a $n;
         echo -en "$h";
         done;
    echo;
    done

Steps to Reproduce:
1. select arbitrary lines
2. some characters will move
3. Not selected: two character wide. Selected: one character wide.

Actual results:
Inconsistent UTF character rendering with one or two character positions.

Expected results:
One character consuming one character-position only
APL UTF characters to take one position only.

Additional info:
Need to define set of characters, that might take two character positions
for improved readability like Chinese characters.

Additional info:

Using ttx to convert font file to xml.

From NotoSansMono-SemiCondensedLight.ttf:
The character width for the following chracters differ.
python -c "print (u'\u2359\u235A\u235B\u235C\u235D\u235E\u235F\n-------')"
⍙⍚⍛⍜⍝⍞⍟ ## in konsole this line is longer than -------
-------
    <mtx name="uni2359" width="563" lsb="38"/>
    <mtx name="uni235A" width="1127" lsb="218"/>
    <mtx name="uni235B" width="563" lsb="125"/>
    <mtx name="uni235C" width="1127" lsb="259"/>
    <mtx name="uni235D" width="1127" lsb="284"/>
    <mtx name="uni235E" width="563" lsb="26"/>
    <mtx name="uni235F" width="1127" lsb="249"/>

From DejaVuSansMono.ttf:
With konsole font <DejaVu Sans Mono> the above mentioned characters display correctly.
⍙⍚⍛⍜⍝⍞⍟ ## in konsole this line has same length as -------
-------
    <mtx name="uni2359" width="1233" lsb="6"/>

    <mtx name="uni235B" width="1233" lsb="256"/>
    <mtx name="uni235C" width="1233" lsb="6"/>
    <mtx name="uni235D" width="1233" lsb="164"/>
    <mtx name="uni235E" width="1233" lsb="6"/>
    <mtx name="uni235F" width="1233" lsb="-20"/>

Comment 2 Ben Cotton 2022-05-12 16:37:38 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 34 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 34 on 2022-06-07.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '34'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 34 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Fedora Linux 34 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2022-06-07.

Fedora Linux 34 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
