dmesg

1. Please describe the problem:
Since the kernel 5.11.19 the system does not get up. Problem is with D-Bus, maybe.

2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:
Latest working version is 5.11.18-300.fc34.x86_64, all above are not working with my laptop.

3. Did it work previously in Fedora? If so, what kernel version did the issue
*first* appear? Old kernels are available for download at
   https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=8 :
Ad2. I'm using Fedora on this laptop since F24.

4. Can you reproduce this issue? If so, please provide the steps to reproduce
   the issue below:
Yes, fully reproducible on my laptop.

5. Does this problem occur with the latest Rawhide kernel? To install the
Rawhide kernel, run ``sudo dnf install fedora-repos-rawhide`` followed by
   ``sudo dnf update --enablerepo=rawhide kernel``:
Not tested, but I'll.

6. Are you running any modules that not shipped with directly Fedora's kernel?:
No

7. Please attach the kernel logs. You can get the complete kernel log
   for a boot with ``journalctl --no-hostname -k > dmesg.txt``. If the
issue occurred on a previous boot, use the journalctl ``-b`` flag.

Comment 5 Hans de Goede 2021-06-12 10:28:17 UTC
This sounds like it is the same dracut issue which is hitting quite a few people, see bug: 1964879

A dracut update fixing this is available in updates-testing, to install this run:

sudo dnf upgrade --enablerepo=updates-testing --advisory=FEDORA-2021-a3ab421a63

After this you need to regenerate the initrds for the non-working kernels, quoting from bug 1964879 comment 22:

"""
export LATEST_KERNEL="5.12.8-300.fc34.x86_64"

sudo cp /boot/initramfs-${LATEST_KERNEL}.img /boot/initramfs-${LATEST_KERNEL}.bak.$(date +%m-%d-%H%M%S).img

sudo dracut -f /boot/initramfs-${LATEST_KERNEL}.img ${LATEST_KERNEL}
"""

To find the right value to set LATEST_KERNEL to, run "rpm -q kernel" and to fix other non working installed kernels, repeat this with LATEST_KERNEL set to the other versions.

Please let me know if this helps, then I will mark this bug as a duplicate of bug 1964879

Hi Hans

This was it. The new dracut fixed the problem.
