Red Hat Bugzilla 1963764 1 unspecified CLOSED inputattach breaks with kernel 5.12.5-300.fc34.x86_64 2022-06-08 01:01:35 UTC

Description Sato Ichi 2021-06-19 19:30:33 UTC
My serial mouse stopped working in Fedora 34 due to the sermouse module being removed from the kernel-core package. This started with the 5.12.5 kernel.

I am running kernel 5.12.10-300.fc34.x86_64.

My serial mouse worked in Fedora 34 with all the kernels before 5.12.5 (e.g. 5.11.21-300).

The compressed sermouse module in kernel 5.11.21 is only 3.6KB in size, so I don't see what is really gained by removing it. Other distros (e.g. Ubuntu) still ship the sermouse module with their 5.12.x kernels, so I don't see why Fedora felt the need to remove it. There are still lots of users with serial mice. Please restore the sermouse module to the Fedora kernel packages, either in the kernel-core package as before, or in the kernel-modules-extra package. Thanks.

The sermouse module is still missing from the 5.13.x kernels in Fedora 34.
