Description Jasper O. Hartline 2006-07-05 15:44:57 UTC
Description of problem:
Using this video device:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE
Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03)
When I logout of a Kadischi made Fedora LiveCD, X never returns.

The logout seems successfull and when switching to a VC: ps ax
shows that GDM is functioning correctly and everything, but I just see a black,
blank screen.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.0.1-9.fc5.1.1

How reproducible:
Logout after booting a Kadischi built LiveCD, on Intel hardware using VESA
 driver.
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Build LiveCD
2.Boot LiveCD
3.Logout of the LiveCD on Intel hardware

Actual results:
Black, blank screen.

Expected results:
To see GDM again.

Additional info:
No additional information at this time.

Bug 168793 is also related to this.

Comment 2 Jasper O. Hartline 2006-09-02 17:29:45 UTC
Another confirmed report of X "dissapearing":

Booting a Fedora Core LiveCD, RHGB displays, and then X starts but the screen
turns blank. The reporter claims X is running, which is consistent with the
behavior I have noticed also on Intel video devices.

The graphics card is as follows from lspci:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML
Express Graphics Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
        Subsystem: Dell Unknown device 018f
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 169
        Memory at dff00000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
        I/O ports at ec38 [size=8]
        Memory at c0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
        Memory at dfec0000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256K]

Comment 3 Craig Schlenter 2006-09-04 06:06:43 UTC
There's been a small miscommunication between Jasper and I, sorry - the card
details that Jasper posted for the Dell above should be ignored. That card
does actually work using rawhide and rhgb/X. I'll post the lspci details of
the card that is failing later when I can reboot the right machine again into
linux - the failing card was identified by xorg as "Intel Corporation 82845G/GL
[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device rev 1" btw. which is pretty
similar to the original card Jasper had trouble with except for the revision
number. Thanks!

Here's the card that has the problem ... if I use the vesa driver then startx
works the first time (no rhgb i.e. this is the first time I call X) but if
I exit X and restart it I just get a blank screen.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE
Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: Compaq Computer Corporation Unknown device 00c5
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10
	Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
	Memory at fc400000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 1

Thanks! This is using a livecd created using kadischi and FC6T2 btw.

Comment 5 Matěj Cepl 2007-07-03 13:52:12 UTC
Fedora Core 5 is no longer supported, please, could you reproduce this bug with
the updated version of the currently supported distribution (Fedora Core 6, or
Fedora 7, or Rawhide)? If this issue turns out to still be reproducible, please
let us know in this bug report. If after a month's time we have not heard back
from you, we will have to close this bug as CANTFIX/INSUFFICIENT_DATA.

Setting status to NEEDINFO, and awaiting information from the reporter.

Thanks in advance.

Comment 6 Matěj Cepl 2007-08-03 13:32:16 UTC
No information requested was provided, so I close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA.
Reporter, if you could, please, reopen with additional information.

Comment 7 Jasper O'neal Hartline 2018-10-03 18:55:48 UTC
I think this was fixed with a vgahw.a file bug that the developers upstream handled for me on Intel having a black screen.
